Friday, 3/25

Sleep is getting better. She slept in her bed all night. We put some blankets under the sheet to pad it a little more and that seemed to help. We pretty much hung out at my parent's this morning and after lunch headed over to Nathan's parents. We left Bethany there while we had a little "couple time" that day. We drove up to DeLand to take a look around and see how things have changed. We went into Wal-Mart to check out prices. Unbelievable. We pay twice as much for a lot of different things. It was sickening.

We then went to dinner at Outback. I can't remember the last time I ate that much food. Probably the last time I ate at Outback, which was the week before B was born! Anyway, I had the 7-oz filet with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad. But of course we started with that yummy bread and a bloomin' onion! Yum, yum!!! It was so good!

Bethany did great at Grandma's. She took a nap, even! And had a bath! What a good girl!

Thursday, 3/24

Today, Nathan went shopping with us. We went back to Babies'R Us so my mom could get a car seat for her car. She wants it to be easier for her to take my niece and not have to bother getting Lisa's.

Next we went to Bubbalou's Bodacious Barbeque, something else that we have missed. We sat outside eating our pork sandwiches and then I fed Bethany some mac 'n cheese. She wasn't quite sure what to do with it at first, as it just came rolling right out of her mouth. But then she ate some more and seemed to like it.

Next, we went to Victoria's Secret because I REALLY needed a new bra. My size has changed so much since being pregnant and breastfeeding and since I'm no longer breastfeeding I figured I deserved a GOOD bra. A lady took my measurements and had me try on a bunch to see what I liked and what fit. I decided on one and then also stocked up on underwear. All in all, another VERY good shopping day!

After we got done we headed over to Grandma's house for dinner. We had ribs and veggies and rice and cake! Everything was delicious and it was great to see Bethany enjoying everyone. And she had fun trying to get Flannel!

Wednesday, 3/23

So, as I said, we slept until 9:30! We may have slept longer, even, if Yoda hadn't barked so loud when my sister arrived. But, I suppose we needed to get up anyway. We were going shopping!

I say that with such excitement because there are many stores that I love that we don't have in Hawaii. And the stores we do have are so much more expensive compared to the ones in Florida.

But before our excursion, we stopped by Nathan's parents' office to see Grandma and Grandpa and Jeannie (one of the women in the office with whom I worked with at one time). Then we went out to lunch with Grandma at Chili's. I had a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. Yum.

Our first stop after lunch was Babies 'R Us! I've had such withdrawls from this store. I have such a hard time finding stuff that I want/need for Bethany. And I always think, "I know Babies 'R Us would have it!" Boy did they ever! Between my mom, sister, and I, we bought about 8 new outfits for Bethany. All under $12.99. Awesome.

Next we were off to the mall. I wanted to look at Dillard's for an Easter dress, but, alas, no good sales. That's okay. We then went to JCPenney. Jackpot! I got a dress, two pairs of cropped pants, a pair of capri jeans, and a sleeveless blouse for $100!!! Holy cow! All in all, a VERY good shopping day!

Later on, my mom and I went to Publix to get some stuff and I was amazed at the price of baby food. One jar was less than $.50. Here a jar is about $.75. And the two packs were $.97 at Publix. They are $1.79 here.

Sleep for Bethany was a little better this night. We had to hold her more again to get her to sleep but she ended up sleeping until about 8:30 Thursday morning.

Tuesday, 3/22

On the flight to Orlando, Nathan and I sat together. Bethany fell asleep during take off and woke up a little bit when Nathan tried to shift. She sat up in his lap and promptly fell face forward into my lap and slept like that all the way to Orlando! Her face in my lap, her legs in Nathan's. She was so cute!

We arrived in Orlando around 3:00 and our first stop was...Chick-Fil-A! Yum! I had my usual #5- 8 pack of nuggets with waffle fries and sweet tea! Oh, sweet tea, how I've missed you! Then we went back to my parents' house. Bethany immediately wanted to follow around Oscar and Yoda (our cat who has to live with my parents for now, and my parents' dog). She developed this "animal speak" while we were there. She used a totally different voice when she saw them. She did the same thing later when she saw Flannel (Nathan's dog). That evening my brother and sister-in-law and their kids and my sister and brother-in-law all came over. Bethany and Hope together were funny (Hope is my 19-month-old niece). Hope was not too happy, though. Whoever Bethany was with at the time, Hope would come over and say, "stop!" and, "My Nahna!". But later they were hugging and playing together. Too cute.

Bethany had a hard time getting used to sleeping there. We put her down in the play yard that night and she woke up a couple of times. Now, we usually let her cry it out if she doesn't fall right asleep, but it never lasts more than 10-15 minutes. This night was blood curdling screams. She was probably just really confused. So, around midnight she just would not go back to sleep. My mom and I sat up with her until around 2:00 am (yeah, I know I'm on Wednesday now) and then she would only go to sleep laying on top of me in the bed. About an hour later I moved her onto the bed next to me. Around 5 am I realized that I just was not getting good sleep myself because I was worried about her. So, with heart beating madly, I scooped her up and put her in the play yard. She stayed! Yea!! And then we slept until 9:30...

Monday, 3/21

Well, most of this day was spent waiting around for it to be time to go! We were kind of glad that our plane didn't leave until 10:30 pm because we thought that it would be easy for Bethany to sleep. NOT. We did her whole bedtime routine and then walked out the door (around 8 pm). That just REALLY confused her. She didn't sleep in the car on the way to the airport. She didn't sleep while waiting to board the plane. She didn't sleep once we were on the plane. It didn't help at that point that Nathan and I were sitting across the aisle from one another. A couple of hours into the flight to Houston Nathan just got up and took her into the galley, threw a blanket over her and bounced her to sleep. That worked. We just had to do that when she woke up every 1-1 1/2 hours. Nathan and I took turns holding her while she slept.

She was so cute!

great week!

Okay, there is a LOT to tell, so I'm going to break up all of the days. I'll do a blog per day, so all of the titles above this will be the day of the week! Happy reading!

Adios...for now

In about 4 hours we will be leaving for good old Honolulu International Airport. We are headed home for the week. We can't wait to see all of our family and friends. We haven't seen our hometown for 8 months! Can you believe it? I can't wait to get there. It will be a busy week, but we are so stoked to see everyone!

I probably won't be blogging this week, simply because we'll be seeing most of the people who read this. For those of you who aren't in mouse-town, I'll give you a complete run down of the week's highlights when we return next Monday.

Please pray for safe travels and for a somewhat easy time on the plane with B. She flew out here when she was 2 months old, but that was when she was sleeping all the time. Now, she needs a lot of interaction! Also pray that we can keep our wits!

See you all in 17 hours!

homeward bound!

This may be my last blog for a week. We'll be in Orlando visiting our family. We have really been looking forward to this. Please pray for us that we'll have safe travels, and that our flights will be bearable with the babe.

Bethany has been really racking up the tricks. She waves, claps, and yesterday she started to dance! She had crawled up to and stood up against the sliding glass door while we were watching a movie and whenever music came on she started bouncing up and down. It was so cute! And now she's mimicking us. We'll go back and forth, "Ah!" "ah!", and when I make a fishy face, she will and when we bounce, she bounces. What a cutie!

1 more day! We can't wait to see everyone!!!

ugh

teething. Will it ever end? I'm so tired of the poop. Sometimes, she'll poop and then will be so miserable so I'll change her right away. Only for her to do it again 5 minutes later. I'm glad we buy diapers at Costco, because we are going through them so fast right now. I took her to the doctor yesterday to look at her diaper rash and he gave me a cream to put on it, since it looked like a fungus rash. He said it should help get rid of it faster. Well, she had a reaction to it and ended up more red than before and it STUNG!!! She kept trying to grab her crotch and she was SCREAMING!! Poor baby! So, that was a waste of money, as I'm never putting that on her again. I'll just continue to stick with the Lansinoh / PureLan. It worked like a charm last time. Why should this time be any different?

Here's a cute picture Nathan took yesterday:

Nathan's dissertation will be in the mail for final review tomorrow. Halleluia!

Sorry I don't have anything really exciting to tell you about. I am very busy getting ready for our trip on Monday. We can't wait to get there!

clapping!

Today, out of the blue, Bethany started clapping! It was sooooo cute! Now, the past few days I've been working with her on it. I would have her sit in my lap and I would clap my hands and then I would clap her hands for her. Then she would clap my hands for me. But today, without any coaxing, she did it all by herself! So, here's a clip for you! Toward the end you can see her just watching us clap. Once I quit, she did it again.

We also posted two clips of her climbing into the chairs. One is dated Feb 23, the other March 1. Go here to see all of the clips. In the chair 2 clip, you can see at the end where Nathan comes home from work. She gets a HUGE grin on her face and squeals!!!

Well, we're still battling the poop. I hate this teething stuff. Her poor tush is so red and sore. It breaks my heart when she screams in pain when we clean her up. Tonight, instead of getting her in and out of the bath, Nathan just hung out with her and let her just sit in the tub for a while. We figured it probably felt good to her. Then we put her in the play yard nekkid for about 20 minutes. Luckily, no poop during that time, so hopefully that helped, too.

We think she's also been waving. It was hard to tell for a while because she was just hitting her hand on her leg. But recently, she's done it when she sees someone, and she doesn't hit her leg anymore. So maybe she'll wave to everyone we see when we're home!

owwie!

Poor baby girl. You turn your head for one second...

She had pulled up on the step stool that was folded up against the wall. Then, she leaned to the side and BAM! She was on the floor. She has a big bruise under her right eye. She's okay, though. She happily ate cheerios and apple wagon wheels after it happened.

She is really getting more into reading now. She actually will sit still for me to read to her and gets mad if I don't read something to her for the fifth time.

She just gets cooler everyday.

On another note, I got to talk to my niece, Hope, who is 19 months old, on the phone today. She said, "Hi, Amy. I love you." So sweet. I can't wait to see everyone. I really can't wait to get Hope and Bethany together.

more teething!

Well, little B must be teething again. She was cranky all day yesterday. And she wouldn't eat. She would eat finger foods if I gave them to her, but she wanted little to do with the solids. And it seemed like she wanted a bottle all day. Plus, she was very clingy. Which was hard, because I've got a cold and didn't want to be on top of her too much to keep her healthy. But, if she isn't feeling good, than all she's going to want is for someone to hold her. She's even started crying when Nathan leaves for work in the morning. Poor baby.

She's started playing with her hair while she drinks her bottle. Better her's than mine!

I forgot to mention that while we were at the beach last weekend that she said Momma! I'd like to think that she was saying that for me, but she was eating cheerios at the time and would only say it after she ate them. Maybe she was asking for more. No, she was saying it for me! :)

Bethany has started sitting through books that she didn't used to. I guess her attention span is growing. I read the same book to her (Barnyard Dance!) four times! She loved it! And I checked out some books from the library that have lots of faces. She squeals at them!

Pray that this crankiness and clinginess are over with by the time we leave!

blabber mouth

Well, she has just been a talking machine today. Practically non-stop. We added cheese to her menu tonight. Not sure she really liked it. Maybe later. Will she be like mommy, or daddy?

She crawled outside tonight. Under complete supervision, don't freak out. She started crawling toward the front door, stopped to try and put the screen in her mouth, and then kept going. Nathan was with her the whole time. Once she got on the concrete, she tried to get up on her hands and feet. That concrete doesn't feel so good on your knees, does it?

the weekend

Well, we decided after a not so great weekend last week, that instead of trying to get Bethany to nap at the beach (which she did great a few months ago) that we would put her in the car at naptime and go to the north shore. This way she could sleep on the way there (it takes almost an hour). The waves were huge this weekend. The place we usually go up there is called Sharks Cove. There is a wall of rocks in the water that creates a little pool. Well, the waves were crashing over the wall so no one was allowed on the beach. You have to go down a pretty steep hill to get to the beach. We were standing at the top (there was caution tape all around) and I took one little step to see a little more and Wham! I slipped and landed on my tush. My tailbone still hurts. So we went to another beach called Waimea Bay (we posted a bunch of pictures from there before) were pretty much you can't ever get in the water. The waves crash right at the shoreline. Saturday the waves were so big that the spray was carrying all the way up the beach. We ended up having a really nice day there. But I am still in pain!

Yesterday was a little hard. I had scheduled to have Bethany's picture taken at 1:30, based on her usual nap schedule. Well, she had a horrible morning nap and was crabby all afternoon. We were at the studio for an hour which put her at her usual afternoon nap. And I still needed to go to Wal-Mart! She was a trooper and took a pretty good afternoon nap. But was still crabby until bed time. She slept in an extra hour this morning! And she's been really good today.

She has expanded her snacking a bit. In addition to the cheerios she's had some whole wheat bread, veggie puffs, and rice cakes. She loves to eat!! Like mommy like daughter!

There are a few new pics on the website. Go check them out!

Bird

I think she may know that a bird is a bird. Today, we were sitting at the tables at Costco and and she saw a bird and went, "buhd!" Kind of a combination between bad and bud. It could have also just been a fluke. But I would like to think otherwise!

I can't believe we're coming home for break! I can't wait for everyone to see Miss Bethany. She gets cooler everyday.

She's eating Cheerios like a champ, now. I only find one or two in her seat after eating a cupful. And she doesn't want me to feed them to her anymore, either. She picks one up and puts it in all by herself. She loves them!!

She's also eaten some bread and some cheddar cheese. And she's a fan of both!

We went to the aquarium on Thursday with a mom's group that I was invited to. Now, am I just not a good mom or are others over-sensitive? Most of the aquarium is inside. There are a couple of things outside and it would mean being in the sun for about 5 minutes, 10 minutes tops. There was a mom there constantly telling me (not in a condescending way) to come into the shade. And she was constantly putting her kid's hat on. The baby would pull it off and the mom would keep picking it up and putting back on. I don't hardly even put a hat on Bethany's head. When we go for a walk and we'll be in the sun for like 30-45 minutes, yeah, of course I do. But for 5 minutes? And, she said that she's never taken her into the ocean!! She's almost a year old! I don't know. What do you think?

We're (hopefully) off to the north shore tomorrow. There's supposed to be a pretty big swell, but hopefully the traffic up there won't be too bad when we go after lunch.
