Day 8, Geneva

Since booking hotels in Switzerland became such a task, we decided to make a day trip to Geneva as part of our France time. The drive into Geneva didn't take very long and it was nice. It was pretty rainy and chilly when we arrived, but after not too long the weather became pretty decent. Which was good, because we were going to be doing a lot of walking!

Our first stop was a Starbucks for some much needed caffeine for Daddy and some warm tea for Mommy. Then we were off to see the sites of the Reformation. It took quite a bit of effort to get up the hilly cobblestone roads but we made it! Before getting to the church we saw several things with Calvin's name on them: a street sign and a few memorial plaques. When we got to the Cathédrale St-Pierre the first thing that struck me was the difference between it and Notre Dame in Paris. There was virtually nothing inside. Then of course I remembered, "Duh, Amy", that it was part of the reformation that everything was stripped. We saw Calvin's chair and then Nathan and B headed up one of the towers to see the views. I'm sure you've seen these pictures already.

Next we headed down to see the Mur de la Réformation. It is in the middle of a beautiful park and the wall itself is impressive.

We made our way back to the center of town to grab lunch and head back to Combloux. Of course, as we were finishing lunch, it started to rain again. We waited as long as we could, then decided to just brave it and get back to the car!

When we got back to the chalet, we were exhausted! Tomorrow, Renaud wants us up early for a trip to Annecy!
